“In the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, I accept the promises you have just made; and in return I receive you as a novice in the Priestly Society of St. Pius X.  Henceforth, you, Anthony, will bear as your name in religion that of Brother Francis." These are the striking words that the 20-year-old postulant heard pronounced by Novice Master, Fr Mark Stafki, on 28 September 2020.  Seven months earlier Mr Anthony Piper had left his New Zealand family in hopes of becoming an SSPX Brother at Holy Cross Seminary/Novitiate.  The reception of the religious habit is an impressive ceremony; the young man enters the chapel for Mass attired in secular clothes and leaves in those of a religious.  His new garb and his new name serve as a clear reminder to both him and everyone else of the capital importance of seeking perfection.  “Be ye perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

A brother consecrates his life to the noblest of causes, the glory of God and the salvation of souls.  He provides immeasurable help to priests in both the spiritual and material domains.  Over the course of the next year, Br Francis will be guided in the practice of religious poverty, chastity and obedience so that he will be ready to take vows once his novitiate is complete.  Please pray that the Most Blessed Virgin Mary keep him faithful and inspire many more young men to pursue a vocation with our SSPX Brothers!
