Immaculate Heart of Mary
During this month of August, we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This year’s feast is especially significant in the context of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady's apparitions at Fatima where she revealed herself under this beautiful title.
It has been well-said that Catholics first discovered the heart of Mary when she stood at the foot of the Cross – and allowed that heart to be broken, or mystically pierced, for our Redemption. Meditating upon the gospels, Catholics recalled that Simeon's prophecy had foretold this great moment of Our Lady's compassion precisely in terms of her suffering heart. St. Luke also speaks of Our Lady's heart with reference to her loving contemplation of the mysteries of Redemption “pondering them in her heart”.
